As a result women's studies programs in higher ed went on to become women's and gender studies pushing the denigration of women via sex positivity, gender ideology etc.
This role today is taken over by the like technocratic elite like Peter Thiel et el. (see 'Tampon Truth' post). Some of the earliest gender bills in the late 90s (GINDA) were widely supported by feminists. AIDS efforts had significant feminist support and many feminists from that time continue pushing the trans narrative. I have written about some of them. It seems to me it is a push and pull of industry and money and ignorant masses of women who have been manipulated to accept atrocities and both deserve to be called out.
But I know also that not all that feminists bought into this. Sometime in the mid 2010s it was feminists who first raised the red flag about what they saw happening to their friends (going 'trans'). It seems that feminists circles in places like San Francisco had a strange supply of street testosterone being passed around. I have not looked too deeply into this but it is suspect. I have been grateful for the insights and efforts of these feminists although I am not one of them. IMO a Christian understanding of the nature man as male and female is the only way out. Today we continue on a trajectory away from this.
Having studied gender psychology since the early 1990's, when Gender Trouble was new, I don't consider Butler et al to be feminists, even though they may be identified as such. There were plenty of actual feminist critiques of Butler at the time, which were ignored by the mainstream.
